Peugeot Citroen unveils smallest auto fuel cell



The GENEPAC fuel cell is the smallest automotive fuel cell available, stressing that fuel cell is still in it's early stage chairman Jean-Marie Folz was pleased to reveal the small suitcase size as a midterm solution, with biofuel deisel as the short term. In developement and partnership with the French Atomic Energy Commision(CEA) the GENEPAC (GENerateur Electrique a Pile A Combustible) is able to produce 80Kw of power. Noted to be a 'range extender' application where the fuel cell would run at 20Kw to provide steady power, while a battery kicks in for extra power when needed.
Being that Fuel cell costs are based on the Platinum and gold material used to produce the product Peugeot Citroen plans to cut the manufacturing costs in half by 2010, making fuel cell cars a more viable future.
