Goobuntu: coming soon to a desktop near you?

The Register is reporting that Google has confirmed it's working on Goobuntu, its own version of Ubuntu Linux. Ubuntu is a popular distribution of Linux which aims for user-friendliness, but Google is mum on what Goobuntu's purpose is. It could be they're readying in an end-user Windows replacement, or Goobuntu might be intended for internal use only. According to Ars Technica, Google spokeswoman Sonya Borälv says that "[w]e use Ubuntu internally but have no plans to distribute it outside of the company."
