IBM announces 630 Mbit/second millimeter wave chipset

IBM seems to think we need yet another potential standard for high-speed wireless, and has announced that it has fabricated a working prototype chipset based on 60 GHz millimeter wave technology. According to the company, the chipset is capable of transmitting data at 630 Mbit/second over distances of 10 meters, which may make it a serious challenger for ultra wideband, which is typically rated at 480 Mbits/second.
