XMEN 3 shots, posters and behind scenes

It seems that FOX has decided to sell X3 as a mutant version of RENT. Don't you love that BEAST one in the pink leather? It is so dashing. Ahem. I can't believe how bad this looks. This is what happens when an idiotic rushed schedule happens to a film. But see, it actually gets worse. Ratner is kinda afloat on his own here. He doesn't have the money or the time to finish and fix the things HE would want to fix... never mind just how horrible things are looking.

Here's some mockups by some fans.

Sort of reminiscent of this...

10-way Skype only on Intel dual-core

Skype have announced that the latest version of their free VoIP software can now support up to 10 people in a conference call. There are, however, some catches.

The bad news is that this function will only work if you have a dual-core Intel processor: a Pentium D or a Core Duo. It seems the Boys in Blue wanted to put one over the Guys in Green and have done a deal for a period of exclusivity on the new functionality. If you run an single or dual-core AMD Athlon 64, or any other single-core processor, you will be limited to five simultaneous users.

Henry Gomez, general manager of Skype North America, said the 10-way calling feature will be exclusive to Intel's chips for a limited time, but would not comment on when this exclusive agreement would expire, therefore allowing Intel's rivals to catch up.

VIA's new board sports S3 integrated VGA

VIA has released the P4M890 chipset which supports Intel P4 processors. It's designed to be a mainstream chipset for decently priced motherboards going into mid-range systems.

It supports the latest 1066MHz FSB processors and 533MHz DDR 2 chips. The graphics core is the S3 Unichrome Pro chip. This includes some video enhancements through the Chromotion video engine, including de-interlacing, video de-blocking and support for connections to high definition TVs.

The P4M890 is pairable with a number of VIA south bridges such as the VT8237A, which includes Vinyl Audio for surround sound. The chip also supports multiple X16 graphics lanes for users to add in additional PCI Express graphics cards if they want.

Look for the chip to start becoming available in motherboards over the coming weeks. If you're looking for a reasonably priced Intel rig, it could be a good one to go for.

Battlefield 2 for X360

Electronic Arts has released a bundle of new screenshots of the Xbox 360 version of Battlefield 2. Evident in the screens are some great lighting and shadow effects and some very high resolution polygon models and texture maps.

Subtitled: 'Modern Combat', the Xbox 360 version will add all the things you would really expect it to - such as online play via Xbox Live, voice communication, 5.1 surround sound - all the things that make Xbox 360 a pretty neat platform to play on.

The PC version of BF2 includes a system of rankings and awards, and this will surely fit in well with the Achievements system implemented in the new Live service.

Innovative composite chassis costs could give rise to mass production

The prohibitive expense of carbon fiber and its painstaking production process has conspired to limit the role of composite chassis to race cars and ultra-pricy supercars like Porsche's Carrera GT. But now, Italy's ATR Group is hoping to change all of that. The firm, having already gained respect (and business) for its work with Porsche, Ferrari and Bugatti, is setting its sights on a lower-priced carbon-fiber composite spaceframe for use in GT-class automobiles. Positioning its flexible technology as an alternative to aluminum chassis construction, ATR believes it can manufacture twenty one-piece tubs per day at a cost that would put it in the realm of many GT offerings. ATR is targeting whips that orbit the Maserati's Spyder's pricepoint.

MSN TV Linux cluster

Haven't seen much use for MSN TV (previously known as Web TV), Microsoft's info appliance for TV-based web surfing. But some dude has not only been able to get the box to run Linux, but is actually building a server cluster out of them. The hack does involve some hardware mods, so it's not necessarily something for casual scripters to undertake (and it's certainly not something any of MSN TV's target users will ever attempt), but considering you can pick these up on eBay for a buck, it could be a pretty cheap way to build your own server farm if you've got the chops to make it work.
