Bombardier Embrio new transportation possibilities

The Bombardier Embrio makes the Segway look old school by relying on only one wheel while in motion, though a second smaller wheel does deploy at speeds below 12 mph. The Embrio uses gryoscope technology similar to the Segway’s to keep its rider balanced, but adds a futuristic hydrogen fuel-cell motor and an active suspension with variable damping. Looking for all intents and purposes like an emasculated motorcycle, the Embio weighs a mere 360 pounds.

After viewing this gallery of fireball-flinging, block-bashing, shell-skipping goodness, and checking out these cool character renders at the British Gaming Blogit's, it's quite likely that your thoughts will simply become dominated by Nintendo's portly plumber. Following that, you'll simply start swelling into a throbbing ball of anger as you realize that the game is only due for release in May.

Tulip expands E-go line - diamonds not included

The company officially unveiled the full E-go line, which basically consists of one $4,000 Turion based laptop with an 80GB drive, DVD burner and media features including a claimed seven-hour battery life in DVD-player mode. The main selling point of the laptop, besides its early iBook-inspired shape, is the availability of a dozen different skins, enabling you to customize your E-go with everything from faux zebra fur to real leather. E-go's motto, displayed on the company's web site with no apparent irony: "It's all about the inside." If you really believe that, we somehow suspect you won't be buying a $4,000 zebra-fur, toilet-seat-shaped laptop.

Reggie introduces (old) Metroid Prime 3 video

Here's a clip of the Reggie narrating a video of Metroid Prime 3 running on some form of the Revolution hardware. This isn't new material by any means: it's the same footage Satoru Iwata showed off at last year's E3. Apparently that wasn't the only venue that got to see it, and Iwata wasn't the only Nintendo bigwig who showed it off.

The Adidas 1 Sneaker, Now in Fashion Colors

A year ago, Adidas released the Adidas 1, the running shoe with a microprocessor and a motorized cable system to adjust cushioning depending on how hard you run. Now the Adidas 1 is coming out in a new line of colors. They are also making a basketball shoe that works on the same principle as the original Adidas 1. It has a magnetic sensor in the heel that senses the level of compression. The basketball model has new software and physical characteristics for basketball and recognizes different kinds of compression associated with basketball. The basketball shoes sells for $250 and should be out in May, the new colors of the Adidas 1 are out now.

RoboPig!

The stainless steel robotic pig developed by Thermo-Systems in Germany specialize in drying sewage plant sludge by constantly giving it a stir thereby accelerating the drying process -- it even helps prevent rotting to boot. Why dry it? Well, since sludge is mostly water, you can remove 90 to 95 percent of its mass by drying it which simplifies its removal not to mention the savings in fossil fuels associated with the transport. The resulting product also becomes an ideal fertilizer since the strong odor has been removed and it’s virtually free of bacteria.

Those last OLPCs back to design status

Those images we saw before of questionable validity of the blue and yellow mockups of the OLPC's final design have shown up on the OLPC site as "concept images," nothing more. So yeah, at least they weren't too far off base. Frankly though, after all that Origami buzz we kind of think the OLPC is almost a more desirable and cost effective multipurpose handheld/ultramobile anyway. Besides, does the 3-hour battery life Origami have hand crank power or mesh network radios, no!

The Autotelematic Spider Bot makes little girls scream

The Autotelematic Spider Bot on display at the Sunderland Museum in the UK is a 6-legged spider that can “see” and communicate with each other via audible “chirping.” At the moment, the bots are on an apparent hunger strike as they won’t stay at the “feeding station” long enough to charge, presumably due to a rift with their creator over having only instilled semi-autonomy. However, the next release of these spiders will be solar powered (and we imagine 10 feet tall!) for release into the wilds of Brazil.

MviX MV-5000U reviewed

The MviX MV-5000U glowing review from Tom's Hardware for its audio / video capabilities. Bought as a case or equipped with a 80GB, 160GB, 250GB, or 300GB hard drive, the MV-5000U packs standalone audio, video, and photo viewing capabilities, an IR remote control, FM transmitter, a small LCD display, optical, coaxial, RCA composite, S-Video, and component outputs. Whether connected to your computer via its USB 2.0 cable, or left on its own by your TV, the MV-5000U handles MPEG-1/2/4, DivX, AVI, DVD and XviD on the video side of things, and MP3, AC3, WMA, OGG, and DTS on audio. Considering Tom's Hardware says this thing can do everything it says it can, and with a slick TV setup interface to boot, we just can't understand why other hard drive manufacturers have been holding out on us for so long. There are a couple downers for the MV-5000U, though: no network interface and no second USB port.

The WiDRIVE WiFi drive enclosure

The WiDRIVE WiFi drive enclosure

Feisty Singapore startup EDS Lab is showing off their WiDRIVE in a small booth tucked deep in the bowels of CeBIT. The WiDRIVE is an 802.11b/g WiFi drive enclosure for 1.8 and 2.5-inch drives. There are other wireless disk solutions available, but WiDRIVE claims theirs is the only portable solution (yeah, it has a rechargeable battery rated for 2-hours of continuous op) which provides direct access to disk from your laptop. In other words, if you're running XP then it looks just like a regular ol' disk drive, you can even boot your OS from it...or so says EDS Lab. We got a demo of the product running video off the WiDRIVE that, worked. However, it lurched noticeably at times albeit in a convention center hall flooded with about 80 different WiFi networks. Still, they have a few months to work out the kinks since the WiDRIVE won't be turned-out proper until July for about $95 -- Europe first.

It's all packed in -- no external antenna protruding from these enclosures.

Available in white or black as these things generally go.

The Samsung XC-WL1N wireless sport cam

Samsung just went wireless with that "lipstick camera" linked to their sport camcorder, the SC-X210L. Good move Samsung, afterall when you're bombin' that hill the last thing you need is a wire tethered-up to the ol' brain-bucket, eh? The new cam and (unspecified) wireless-embedded battery pack are good-to-go at a distance of about 3 meters although the hands-on demo dropped vid whenever the path 'tween cam and pack was obstructed. Expect the pair to launch globally in April/May for a yet to be determined price.

MobiBlu DAH-1900 claims longest battery life

MobiBlu has now rolled out the DAH-1900, which comes with a new claim, that of the world's longest battery life. According to MobiBlu, the flash player can run for up to 153 hours on a charge. Of course, to achieve that kind of endurance, the player doesn't include the ability to show videos or pics, though it does include an OLED display, an FM radio and support for MP3, WMA and PlaysForSure. A 2GB comes in at $275, which seems somewhat steep for a flash player.
