Yes! debuts updated Roadster

Built in Germany by Funke and Will AG, the handbuilt 'Yes!' Roadster is something of a mini-supercar. The new Roadster will show off its 2006 mechanical systems upgrades this year. Weighing it at less than 2,200 lb, the Yes! Roadster's second-generation model sports an Audi's 3.2-liter V6 in either normally-aspirated or turbo versions. The turbo pumps out 355 hp and about 360 lb-ft of torque, good for 0-62 mph in 3.69 seconds. For the truly power-hungry, Yes! plans an option kit for the turbo model to boost output by an additional 30 hp. The mid-engine Yes! Roadster drives the rear wheels through a six-speed box. Prices start at about $72,000.

ASUS raises PhysX stakes with 256MB PPU

Manufacturing giant ASUS today announced their own physics accelerator card based on the AGEIA PhysX processor. This brings the number of board partners to two, with BFG Technologies already shipping inside selected systems from Alienware, Dell and others, as we reported last week.

The big news is that while the BFG card has 128MB of on-board memory, the ASUS card announced recently sports 256MB. It is interesting to note the differences between the two boards: the ASUS is definitely not the same layout as the BFG, not just with higher capacity memory chips. But the heatsinks, ASUS has employed a larger, focused-flow design similar to that used on graphics cards. BFG has a cheaper, radial-finned design - clearly enough to cope with the 30-odd watts the PPU kicks out. There is also a different number of capacitors, in slightly different locations, on the PCBs.

More LEGO Star Wars II character details

Three new screenshots and a number of new playable character descriptions have been released for LEGO Star Wars II: The Original Trilogy, and Lucasarts has decided to share the LEGO love with us!

The three screenshots mentioned, capture Chewie, Han, Leia, and even Obi-Wan doing his best non-canon work (as can be seen in the Free Play shot aboard the Blockade Runner).

If you played through the original LEGO Star Wars on consoles or the PC, you'll be able to import its unlocked characters into the sequel, which should come in handy to begin General Grievous's training with Yoda. (More prequel characters = more sequel lightsabers.) And if you unlocked that secret (but short) bonus level--after completing all the mission requirements in the prequel--you know that you'll need to get your hands on the sequel.

Old Radiation King-style PSP design

This old-school PSP look may not exist in real life, but we like the idea of easily interchangeable face plates on PSPs. Maybe for the next version of the PSP, perhaps?

Blizzard celebrates April Fool's

Of all the developers in the gaming industry, none enjoy April Fool's Day more than Blizzard. Their assault on honesty hit in three waves:

* "In the end, only one power was strong enough to destroy the insidious Archimonde." Blizzard announced the new Alliance race featured in the World of Warcraft expansion The Burning Crusade: the wisps! Man, I cannot wait to try out the racial trait Treeform, I've always wanted to become shrubbery!
* BurgerCraft: Blizzard restaurant chain will celebrate the Warcraft, Diablo, and StarCraft universes with savory dishes from all Blizzard games--really, it is the orc employee, Chef Thrall (pictured), that sells it. Tasty Templar does sound rather...well...tasty, though.
* World of Starcraft: Okay, so this gag has nothing to do with Blizzard (this was all GameSpot's idea), but we couldn't help but mention it while we were making our rounds. Slated for release sometime next year in Korea, with other regions to follow.

Samsung Q1 UMPC available for pre-order for $1,400

The first UMPC model to get an official price, the TabletKiosk eo, is expected to sell for about $900. And, now we get word that Samsung's Q1 can be pre-ordered from eXpansys for a mere £799.95 (about $1,400). The price before VAT is somewhat cheaper -- £680, or about $1,180, but this price makes the Q1 more expensive than many laptops, and not all that much cheaper than some full-featured tablet PCs. US pricing, once announced, will almost certainly be lower.
