Alfa Romeo to put 8C Competizione into production!

New Alfa CEO Antonio Barravalle says, "We have cut the budget for our advertising campaign and will do the 8C instead, because it is a perfect way to promote the Alfa brand."

The plan is to debut the production version at the Paris show, where the company will start to take orders for a limited production run of 500 coupes. Apparently Barravalle is also considering a future Spider version.

Speculation is that the new 8C will follow the carbon fiber body/spaceframe chassis construction of the concept car, with a 440 hp V8 powerplant based on the current Ferrari-Maserati unit.

Jet-powered VW bug takes to the street

Ron Patrick wanted a VW Beetle with a jet engine. But he also wanted to be able to drive it on the open road, rather than just on a closed airport runway surrounded by fire engines and EMT crews. His solution? A dual-engine vehicle, with a normal VW motor for day-to-day transportation, and a GE T58-8F helicopter turboshaft engine converted to run as a jet, to get through rush-hour traffic. All we know is we don't want to be caught behind Patrick when he flips the switch on this one.

PointyRemote allows the user to wirelessly view and control a PC desktop from the distant comfort of their Nintendo DS. Though we don't recall anyone balking at the concept at the time, we now present this Flickr image of the DS lording over the common beige box and barking out instructions in a Wi-Fi dialect. Apparently the A button zooms your view and you can use your stylus as an input device, even send text through your handheld.

Bridge Builder

Bridge Builder

Bridge Builder is a freely downloadable game, with the objective to complete each level's challenge by building a bridge strong enough to allow a train to pass over it without collapsing. Learning how the game works takes no time at all due to the incredibly simple control scheme. But figuring out what constitutes a strong bridge design can be frustrating, enlightening and exhilarating. There's a certain amount of fun to be derived from watching your painstakingly built bridge collapse unceremoniously, so even when you're frustrated, you're having fun. Thankfully, the stress analysis mode (which turns healthy beams green, and stressed beams red) can help you to determine where the weak point in your design lies.

This game is incredibly fun and addictive, plus it's also educational. There is a free version, but if you complete it and find that you're completely addicted, there are 3 newer commercial versions that you can play.

Definition of HDTV: here we go again

The minimum resolution requirement for something to be called "high-definition" is any display that can show 720 horizontal lines, meaning that XGA (or 1024 x 768) should be considered high-def. Our contention is that XGA is a computer resolution and that the more traditional 1280 x 720 (or higher) would be required for the HD moniker. Take a look at Henning's thoughts over at HDBlog for his insights on the subject.
