Ukrainian 4x4 unveiled by boxer Vitaly Klicko

Here's a (very) rough online translation of the site below (courtesy imtranslator.net). The translation basically states that boxer Vitaly Klichko is somehow affiliated with this heavy-duty civilian Ukranian ‘jeep,' a $70,000 vehicle made by “the Kremenchug motor transportation enterprise.”

The above Tetris DS commercial is nicely done, displaying how a skydiver might play Tetris in mid-air with friends. Is it just me or are Nintendo commercials getting better! Look out for Tetris DS when it hits store shelves on March 20.

Rolling Madness

Marble Madness is hands-down one of the all-time classic arcade games. Rolling Madness is a clone of Marble Madness, done using OpenGL and other open source tools. It looks great, and plays perfectly. The author appears to have used the same music and sounds from the original game. I can almost hear that pocketful of quarters jingling. One of the neat features in Rolling Madness is that you can switch from a true perspective (possible with today's machines), as you see in the screenshot here, or you can use the old perspective from the original, which was really an isometric view. Either way, hours of ball rolling is yours to be had. I tried using the keyboard controls, but the mouse is a nice change of pace. The only negative is that it's Windows only.

XP on Mactel: The Movie

The infamous narf2006 has made good on his earlier promise to provide a video of Windows XP booting on a iMacintel. The video looks fairly convincing, but still, until Colin Nederkoorn hands narf the check, everythings still up in the air. Colin, sponsor of the XP on Mac contest that started this whole thing, had to switch hosts after yesterday's frenzy, and is now hosting only the contest page, rather than the forums where narf had earlier posted pics of his supposed XP solution. Colin expects to have narf's solution in by the end of the week for testing, so we should know pretty soon whether this is the Holy Grail or a just another tin cup.

Katamari Kountdown: new title on the way?

The webspace for We Love Katamari will close in 3 days, according to the countdown introducing the site. While the upcoming Me and My Katamari game supposedly marks the end of the series, 1UP believes this "closure" could be signs of an impending announcement concerning--you guessed it--more King of Cosmos! Note their reasoning:

* The last time the Katamari website was closed, it reopened soon after to introduce We Love Katamari.
* The site's closure--Friday, March 17--is the day before "all the new Japanese game magazines hit newsstands."
* March 18th also marks the 2-year anniversary of the release of the original Katamari Damacy in Japan...could the site reopen in celebration?

A new Katamari sequel, in honor of its amazing 2-year run, is not out of the question--even without the consent of series creator (who has stated on record that he plans to now move on and design children's playgrounds). One thing is for sure--a new Katamari game for PlayStation 3 would be really good news for the currently-embattled Sony.

PSP's price cut, GPS, cam, VoIP and media download service

Ken Kutaragi's PlayStation business briefing has adjourned and a new GPS receiver (PSP-290) with game support will indeed drop this “autumn” with a new GPS-enabled Hot Shot Golf title loaded-up for first release. Sony also let fly a new USB-attached PSP-300 EyeToy camera add-on for a September launch which will support a new video and VoIP chat service coming in October. Also of note is the announcement of a new digital distribution system allowing users to download “games and applications” directly to your Memory Stick – an early use will be for downloading and playing PSone games (via a new emulator) directly off your memory cards, although specifics around that service have yet to be announced. Rounding things out are the announcements that a future firmware release will bring Macromedia Flash compatibility and a new RSS Channel function to save and playback internet radio and video content. All this and the PSP base-unit price will be cut to $199 by the end of the month.

AJAX shoutbox plugin for Wordpress

Now if you want a shoutbox on your WordPress blog, it's as easy as installing the AJAX Shoutbox plugin by Andrew Sutherland. Of course, there are other ways to get the job done, in particular a pile of third-party services that'll let you embed some of their JavaScript on any page, but there's nothing quite like being in charge of your own data and Sutherland's AJAX Shoutbox is pretty slick.

Performancing Metrics: Professional stats for your blog

Performancing, the people who brought you the Performancing blogging extension for Firefox, have launched a new web service called Performancing Metrics that aims to provide "professional grade blog statistics" for serious bloggers. Performancing Metrics can handle multiple blogs and will aggregate data from all of your blogs, generates RSS feeds so you can keep an eye on your stats easily, and shows AdSense data and search engine traffic. It's entering a market currently occupied by Mint and, though it's not geared specifically to blogs, Google Analytics. Performancing Metrics is currently a free, open beta; no word on whether the service will still be free once it's out of beta.

Hellgate: London community Q&A

Hellgate Guru recently opened fire on Flagship Studios Community Manager Ivan Sulic with a barrage of fanboy questions about the forthcoming Hellgate: London. This futuristic RPG-shooter created by Diablo vets won't contain any "cow levels", but Sulic answered over 40 community questions on topics such as Vista support, modding, skill systems, and how they plan to deal with hacks and bots.

Unfortunately, he wasn't able to go into much detail regarding the multiplayer component due to editorial agreements. This means we'll see some exclusive magazine or portal previews in the near future, and hopefully a release date. In the meantime, check out GameTrailers and GameSpot for some gameplay demos and production vids.

Looking for a way to use that extensive collection of Leica lenses you've accumulated over the years, Epson has announced a modest upgrade to the R-D1, the company's digital rangefinder, which is compatible with Leica M mount and L mount glass. The R-D1 shares its predecessor's 6 megapixel APS-C sensor, 2-inch LCD, RAW format, multiple black-and-white modes, and ISO 200-1600, and adds a few minor improvements, including a JPEG RAW mode, quick view function, Adobe RGB mode, and noise reduction for long exposures. Pricing hasn't been announced, but will probably be in line with the original R-D1, which goes for about $3,000.

StarTech MP3 AirLink - another way to share the music

StarTech's MP3 AirLink is another wireless device that beams music from your computer or audio player to a stereo system or powered speakers in another room. And, as reviewed by PC Magazine, it's a fairly barebones system that nevertheless gets the job done under most circumstances. The system basically consists of a non-WiFi 2.4 GHz transmitter and receiver; plug the former into your audio source, the latter into your stereo system, and you're done. PC Mag found the range to max out at about 40 feet, rather than the claimed 100, though your mileage may vary; the test was done in an urban apartment, not exactly an interference-free zone. And speaking of interference, turning on the microwave obliterated the sound, though that happens with plenty of other wireless devices. All in all, PC found the AirLink, at about $90, to provide reasonable value.
