Foose to unveil Hemisfear at 2006 SEMA show

Chip Foose, creater of the '05 Ridler awarded 'Impression'(pictured), has a new upcoming project to soon be revealed, the 'Hemisfear' coupe; has such a cool name that we just couldn't resist giving it a bit of virtual ink. Apparently, project cars now require sponsorship, which in this case is being provided by toy company RC2 Brands. Look for a die-cast model later this summer, and the actual car will be publicly shown in November at the 2006 SEMA show.

If you just can't get enough of the star of TLC's Overhaulin', Sport Truck has posted an interview with Foose.

In the picture above, he appears to be explaining just how fast the Hemisfear coupe will accelerate, "as if a huge set of hands are pushing it."

New FT "FemaleType" femme bot brings the sexy

Takahashi-san -- creator of the wonderful Chroino and Manoi bots -- has the proper anime-styled future bot answer with his new femme bot, the FT "FemaleType." Of course, being sexy isn't all about how you look standing still, so FT has the strut of a fashion model with the twist of her hips and feminine posture. We'll keep an eye out for video of this strut in action, but we do know that FT is built out of carbon fiber, stands 14-inches tall, weighs a mere 1.8 pounds, and should be in production in a bit more than a year.

Chuck Norris roundhouse kicks Oblivion

This is one of those amusing Chuck Norris skits to brighten up your day. Cheesy theme song, accurate costume and face appearance (thanks to Bethesda's incredibly detailed character-creation system), and a complete disregard for the well-being of NPCs. This is Kyle Mathias' first video, and we love it all the same. Thanks for the laugh, Kyle!

A Casio Watch In Mission Impossible 3

James Bond has worn both Rolex and Omega but what will Ethan Hunt wear on his wrist in the next Mission Impossible movie? Cruise's character is more rough and tumble, so he will be wearing the Casio G-Schock MTG-910D. The watch is a radio controlled, solar-powered model and water resistant up to 200 meters.

New Aftermath screenshots

Here's new screenshots of the game formerly known as Aftermath - Half Life 2 Episode 1, showing Alyx getting up to some action and another shows the elite Combine guards that we all faced at the end of the original game. Walkers also seem to be making a reappearance.

We also managed to get our hands on the packshot for the retail version that will come out from Electronic Arts a few days after the Steam version hits. It features Alyx looking wistful over the barrel of a gun. The game'll appear on April 28th, officially, but we have our sneaking suspicions that's it's already slipped to May.

The "Jonathan" reborn?

The "Jonathan" concept computers designed by John Fitch in the mid-Eighties utilized a 'bookcase' concept where multiple modules (or books) housing internals for specific operating systems all resided on the same track outputting and receiving input from the same devices. Last year Microsoft sponsored a competition, Start Something PC (now renamed Next-Gen), the 2005 winner was a concept called "Bookshelf" that had a physical design very similar to the "Jonathan". However, rather than allowing multiple computer systems to run in the same space, the books focused on storing digital rights managed content. In essence carrying over the idea of ownership and how we organize physical sources of information into the digital world. Wonder if Sungho Son and Scott Shim had read the 1997 book, “Apple Design: The Work of the Apple Industrial Design Group”.

An in-depth look at ajaxWrite

The Extremetech guys gets very specific in the criticisms of ajaxWrite, like keyboard shortcuts don't always work (or get implemented), browser-specific technology (in this case, Firefox 1.5), and of course some security issues. It's a top-to-bottom review of the service, and the results aren't great. Then again, I see all of the ajaxLaunch stuff as being more proof-of-concept. Why it isn't ajaxLaunchBeta is beyond me. After all, Beta is the new black.

DV Guru compares 10 video sharing services

There are a bunch of video sharing sites out there, and DV Guru shakes down 10 of those contenders, ranking appeal, interface, editing, and sharing for each. I'd never heard of Revver, which is pretty much like Google Video but with a lot more suck (and not tied to a market leading search engine). I'm a fan of Videoegg as well, since you can post your vid on ebay easily.

PayPal Mobile arrives

PayPal has launched its PayPal Mobile solution for mobile phones. The service enables PayPal customers to make payments to virtually anyone with a phone number. You can also purchase anything you see bearing a PayPal Text to Buy label.

The service works by sending a text message to PayPal, and then PayPal calls to confirm the transaction. You enter your PIN number and then the person you're paying recieves a call to inform them of how they're able to retrieve their money.

Security is one of PayPal's major concerns, and the company feels that they've locked it down pretty heavily as every transaction is confirmed with a return phone call, with the buyer entering their PIN number. PayPal's stance basically revolves around a No PIN, No Transaction methodology, meaning that you're safe if you loose your phone, providing your PIN is kept completely separate from your handset.
