Subaru Legacy B4 ConceptR by monoCRAFT

Subaru fans, and more specifically the Legacy fans, have a new creation from monoCRAFT, the ConceptR. Once again, this very nice and discrete bodykit comes from the Styling/Tuning division from Autobacs, a leading car equipment seller in Japan. The biggest changes are the front and read bumper but some important changes have been applied to the sideskirts of the car.

The Subaru Legacy is a monument in Japan, and the public adores the Legacy, no matter what year it was manufactured in. The target audience of this car is usually people in their thirties, that have a family, but like a powerful and sporty car too. monoCRAFT has accentuated the sporty aspect by offering wide air intakes protected by a grill on the front bumper, painted in the same colour as the rest of the body of the car. The same story goes for the rear of this B4(or Wagon), where we find 2 exhausts integrated in the rear bumper and shaped very nicely into a "W", which gives a sense of speed and power to this ConceptR, even when it's not moving. To be in perfect harmony with the rear and the front, monoCRAFT has also worked on the lateral sideskirts of this ConceptR to make them more impressive than the standard ones.

Superman Returns gets neat WETA figures

Behold the latest work involving that certain Last Son of Krypton as brought to life and art directed by Brian Singer himself! These sculptures are said to be lifted from scenes right out of the film -some may be mildly spoilerish- but look at the freakin' nose of the plane, flaming falling debris and heroic pose of said superhero! 4 different depictions are available: Disaster Averted, The Returning Son, Fallen hero, and The Daily Planet, sized around 20" x 15", and are going for NZD $528.89. DC comics brought to life!

Flash game Flow

Flash game Flow

Flow is a brilliant Flash game that's a sort of cross between Pac-Man and Nibbles, though that's hardly doing it justice. There's no plot to speak of, but you begin the game as a sort of small luminescent organism and you must eat other organisms to grow. You can go forward or back among the levels at will, but while the first levels are populated only by benign, easily-digestible prey, the later levels are filled with more dangerous adversaries that you'll only be able to defeat if you've out-evolved them. The game is unique in that there's no timer and no score display (your health is represented visually in the composition of your organism), and though there's a final goal (I won't spoil it for you), there's no real end to the game. Despite its simple premise and simple controls, Flow is a game that's satisfying to play and difficult to stop playing.

Panasonic's interactive touchscreen table

Panasonic has unveiled their new interactive and intelligent table. Your mobile phone has all your personal data, agenda and contacts stored into it, once you put your phone on the table, a small "agent" can read the information from your phone. This agent also controls everything in your house, like the climate control, the TV. To look at this agent, you tap the touch sensitve screen of your table and you communicate with the agent and its different functions. The screen is not compareable to your PDA's touch sensitive screen, it's much more solid and you can put things on the screen without provoking any kind of damage.

Browser-based 3D FPS game

Phosphor is a multi-player browser-based first-person shooter. The game, developed by Rasterwerks, is in beta so it's not without it's problems. But, the overall initial experience was rather smooth and impressive. Check it out!

Note: this baby takes more load time than a PSP and you'll need to have Shockwave 10.1 to run it.

AlphaGrip AG-5 input thingy reviewed

Self-proclaimed "obsessive power-user" Ryan Paul over at ArsTechnica put the $100 alternative input device, which combines keyboard and pointing functions into a gamepad-like housing, through extensive testing in a variety of computing environments and found it to be from a good-to-great device overall. Although Paul claims to have achieved 45 words-per-minute after only a week of on-and-off use, apparently most people take up to a month to reach those speeds on the unintuitive layout (which does have one major benefit: unlike other alternaboards such as DVORAK and Frogpad, extensive use of the AG-5 does not deteriorate your QWERTY skills). Although the ergonomic benefits of the AlphaGrip system are without question (no more hunching over and jumping from 'board to mouse), problems such as a sluggish trackball, buggy Caps Lock button, and difficulty in executing multi-keystroke commands (along with the obviously-steep learning curve) may convince interested users to wait on the next generation of this product (although it might be quite a long wait: AlphaGrip already has the dubious distinction of having at least one Wired Vaporware Award under its belt).

Recover lost photos from flash memory with PhotoRec

PhotoRec is an open source multi-platform app intended to help you recover photos from corrupted media like memory cards and even hard drives and CD-ROMs. In addition to photos, PhotoRec can recover many other types of files, including video files, documents, and archives (e.g. zip files). PhotoRec ignores the filesystem and goes after the underlying data, so it'll work even if your media's filesystem is severely damaged, and it'll work on FAT, NTFS, or ext2/3 systems. PhotoRec is a companion program to TestDisk, an app for recovering lost partitions on a wide variety of filesystems and making non-bootable disks bootable again.

Panasonic Strada GPS units and digital TV

Panasonic's rolling out in-car screens in a big way, adding three new models to its Strada lineup, two of them with GPS. The GPS models, the CN-DS120D (above) and CN-D050D, both have 7-inch screens and DVD drives. On the DS120D, the DVD drive can also be used to watch movies, and the model also includes an SD slot, presumably so you can toggle back and forth between a film and GPS data without having to swap discs. The unit also includes a digital TV tuner (for Japanese terrestrial digital TV). If you just want to watch TV while you drive, the TU-DTV20 is a standalone digital tuner that can be paired with a matching 7-inch display.

Kingston Data Traveler Elite Privacy Edition self-destructing flash drive

Kingston's Data Traveler Elite Privacy Edition is a 4GB flash drive that encrypts all data with 128-bit AES, and then adds an extra layer of security: a self destruct feature. If anyone tries to use a brute-force attack to guess your password, the drive will automatically erase itself after 25 wrong guesses. Of course, if you have a really easy password, and a data thief can figure it out in under 25 guesses, you're out of luck.

Jindo/ARIN robodog eager to fill the AIBO void

South Korean inventor Eungsang Park's claimant to the AIBO throne, called either Jindo or ARIN (no one seems to be sure), this take on the robodog trumps Sony's dearly-departed by adding multimedia functionality (screen, speakers), realistic canine features, more horsepower, and, oddly enough, a sense of smell. Jindo/ARIN also sports numerous radios for communication and entertainment -- cellular, DMB, and WiFi (and probably WiBro), as far as we can tell -- along with a curiously-placed optical disk slot (or "room," as it were) and functional-but-silly joystick tail.
